Divine banana pancake recipe for all day energy

Divine banana pancake recipe for all day energy Sunday is pancake day at my house and I love slathering a rich fruity topping over the hotcakes as soon as they're flipped from the pan. You are going to love these. They are hearty, filling, tasty and very satisfying. You only need 1 or 2 to feel full and unlike a typical pancake they won't spike your blood sugar and make you sleepy very soon after eating them! Most pancakes tend to pack on the pounds because they're full of flour and sugar. These ones do the opposite and taste even better! Full of bananas, [...]

Healthy breakfast recipe: coconut raspberry oatmeal

Healthy breakfast recipe: coconut raspberry oatmeal Breakfast can be a tricky meal for most of us. While I am so pleased that the word is spreading around the world that grains are generally terrible for our health, I worry that we can't reach enough people in time. I was really impressed that after doing a thorough review of the medical literature, Sweden made the first move to develop low-carb national dietary guidelines. But many people don't have time to wait for their country to catch up to Sweden. If each of us let our loved ones know that that the grains in their morning bagel, toast, [...]

Turmeric onion eggs with garlic avocado tomato and olive oil salsa (heart friendly)

Turmeric onion eggs with garlic avocado tomato and olive oil salsa (heart friendly) Eggs can be part of a healthy eating program to help lower your cholesterol naturally. Yes, I know it goes against much of what you've probably heard, but as I find through my food research on almost a daily basis, the food recommendation literature out there is mostly commercially biased, or just plain wrong when it comes to helping us become heart healthy. As part of a cholesterol reducing heart friendly diet, a few eggs, or some studies even suggest up to between 7 to 14  lightly [...]

Start a romance with raw food for heart health and new flavour explosions!

Start a romance with raw food for heart health and new flavour explosions! In mid 2012, when I was trying to figure out how to change my diet to tackle genetically high cholesterol, I did a tally of my raw food eating habits, and I was shocked at how little raw veg and fruit I was eating. Well actually it wasn't just the raw food that was missing, the total tally of of veg and fruit I was eating in general (cooked or raw) was way too low! Unfortunately, this is very common. This CDC report from 2009, shows that [...]

Reduce cholesterol with daily oatmeal

Reduce cholesterol with daily oatmeal Since 1997, oatmeal has been given the status of a "qualified health claim" by the FDA. Health claims on food labels are claims by manufacturers of food products that their food will reduce the risk of developing a disease or condition. This oatmeal health claim has allowed advertisers to mention it as a heart friendly ingredient on any products that contains oatmeal. There are very few foods that have approved health claims. Since the 97' ruling, oatmeal has been further reviewed, and Dr. James W. Anderson, professor of medicine and clinical nutrition at the University [...]

How to make a green smoothie to reduce your cholesterol (video)

How to make a green smoothie to reduce your cholesterol (video) After my last post on green smoothies to reduce cholesterol, a reader asked a question about quantities and practicalities. In general - you can't really do a smoothie "wrong".  In other posts, I'll cover ways you can "jazz" up your morning smoothie to include other superfoods that have been proven to reduce cholesterol, but for now if you are getting your whole apple, half avocado and 2 cups of spinach packed into your blender, then you are doing very well! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MVBB-ZYzOzI KEY TIPS: Just add enough liquid to the [...]

Reduce cholesterol with daily green smoothie

Reduce cholesterol with daily green smoothie I am a big proponent of the "attraction" diet, instead of the "avoidance" diet. What do I mean? It's a question of focus. Instead of a focus on the avoidance of a substance, we focus on exactly what we need to put into our body everyday. We've been told for years to avoid saturated fats and red meats etc. to reduce cholesterol. While this is good advice in general, this kind of "avoidance" eating can in theory be done while still eating very unhealthily. What to do instead? Make sure you get your fruit [...]

Breakfast in London: The Table

Breakfast in London: The Table Breakfast at: The Table, Southwark Location:83 Southwark Street, London SE1 0HX Food: Very Good Vibe: happening Recommend: YES Comments: Great buzz, full on Sunday brunch, excellent food, great coffee, almost died from the slow service, but the staff in general were friendly, just busy and not quick to respond. Visited the architect firm just above The Table, Allies and Morrison during Open House London and looked down on The Table from above in their offices. I appreciate more, the unique contribution this space adds to the Southwark community. I will return! Amazing breakfast.

Breakfast in London: Carluccio’s Covent Garden

Breakfast in London: Carluccio’s Covent Garden Kicking things of with one of life's favorite rituals: breakfast. I love lingering over a great breakfast, brunch, pastry, and most of all coffee(s). As the java and conversation slowly revive, the comforting din of Sunday morning conversations and the steam of the poaching eggs envelope me with a feeling of being smack dab in the present moment. Work is light years away. There is an immediacy in the moment,  that comes oddly from slowing down and dipping my croissant in my coffee to savour each bite.    Road trips get planned, events are debriefed. Whenever [...]
